Description

The Peglerae Interpretative Hiking Trail takes you around the ridges of the Kgaswane Mountain Reserve. The rocky surroundings are steep in places so you are advised to be careful of loose rocks.

Highlights

  • Kgaswane Mountain Reserve is home to over 250 bird species – a photographer’s paradise – with the Cape Vulture a special sight to see.
  • Be on the look-out for zebras, sables and other buck. This trail wets your appetite for the longer 2-day hikes also found at the Kgaswane Mountain Reserve.

Directions to the Peglerae Trail, Rustenburg

The Peglerae Trail is situated about 200 metres north-west from the visitor centre of the Kgaswane Mountain Reserve. Marked in yellow with its namesake – the Aloe Peglerea – you’ll find directions easy to follow, corresponding to the booklet received at the visitor centre.

Start

It starts at the visitor centre – go to the cement trail 200 metres further.

End

Following the ridge of the mountain, the trail ends in a loop at the visitor centre.

Features

At the Kgaswane Reserve you’ll find picnic spots – perfect for relaxing and bird watching – as well as braai facilities and ablution blocks near the visitor’s centre. Be on the look-out for different types of buck and birds. The sight of the Magaliesberg and the view of Rustenburg is breathtaking.

  • sturdy hiking shoes & socks
  • plasters for those blisters
  • insect repellent
  • refreshments and water
  • camera
  • binoculars for the birdwatchers
