This day trip from Rustenburg to Potchefstroom is something one can do with friends or family and is especially fun if combined with the yearly festival, Aardklop during the short holidays of September – October.

Directions:

From Rustenburg, take the R24 towards Krugersdorp and take the right turn towards Derby. Carrying on, on the Derby Road, you’ll come to Ventersdorp. At the first stop, turn left. At the following stop, turn right. At the stop street, turn left again and continue straight through Ventersdorp and continue till you arrive at Potchefstroom. If you turn left at the first traffic light and continue straight, you’ll see the Potchefstroom University on your left hand side, and the Friendly Grocer on your right hand side. At the stop, you can turn left or right depending if you’d like to visit the Aardklop fields (right) or visit the gallery and theater on the North-West University of Potchefstroom’s Campus (left).

Aardklop:

Aardklop is a yearly arts and culture festival held in Potchefstroom. Usually in the month of October, the first week of school holidays, so you can enjoy the day or week in Potchefstroom.

This festival started off in 1998, and it was then that the first Aardklop was held with about 15 000 first visitors. Today over 150 000 have visited Aardklop in a week, to date, and each year the number grows.

If you enjoy true Afrikaans theatre, songs and stalls with delicious “skilpaadjies, pap-en kaaiings”, chips on sticks and more, or love to find little treasures found between the different arts and crafts on offer, then don’t miss out!

Whilst visiting Potchefstroom, why not have a look around at the following places on your day trip?
