Bergheim Hiking Trail

Bergheim Hiking Trail near Kroondal (Rustenburg)

The Bergheim Hiking trail is situated within the Bergheim Resort – situated north of the Magaliesberg (near Rustenburg). The Bergheim Trail starts from the camping grounds and heads in the directions of the mountains and deep gorge. It passes streams filled with rocks until you reach the sides of the Magaliesberg. Here you can decide if you’d either like to climb the gorge either from the left or right hand side. (Beware: the left side seems steeper than the other).

  • View of the Fernkloofgorge of Magaliesberg.
  • At the top a stream awaits you for a lovely sitdown or even a dip in the water.

The Fernkloof at the top of the hiking trail offers spectacular views over the Magaliesberg mountains and also offers you the chance to “kloof” down the gorge that is about 50m wide and 100m deep. Cool waterfalls and streams await the tired hiker, and it is said to be a good place to take a minute and enjoy lunch and the water – for those who fancy a swim.

Take With

You will need the following:

  • Backpack with lunch and water
  • Good hiking shoes with socks
  • Swim suit – especially in the summer months
  • Towel
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera & extra batteries
  • GPS (for the hike can become confusing)
  • Binoculars
