SA cycling outfit MTN-Qhubeka will compete at the 2015 TdF
South African based cycling outfit MTN-Qhubeka will compete at the 2015 Tour de France.
MTN-Qhubeka was named on the list of 22 teams that will be competing event. The team was given a wildcard entry and it will be the first time that an African team will ride the event.
Their participation in the tour will help accelerate the progression of African cycling,” tour director Christian Prudhomme said in an AFP report.
The Tour de France will not be MTN-Qhubeka’s maiden top tier tour, as it competed in the Tour of Spain last year.
Last year, the team signed up American rider Tyler Farrar to add some experience to it. The 30-year-old sprinter has won a stage on each of the grand tours and has been tipped to help his new team maintain their position in the top tier of road cycling.
MTN-Qhubeka has also managed to lure Norwegian sprinter Edvald Boasson Hagen from Team Sky to the team.
