Gauteng Canoe Union hosts regular races at dams and lakes throughout Gauteng as well as on the limited few rivers in the area – the most popular being the Klip river in Meyerton where there is a constant supply of reasonable water flow with rapids, to help prepare paddlers for A grade river races such as those found on the Dusi, the Fish, the Orange, Elands, Crocodile etc.
With the new Gauteng race season kicking off in April, numerous new and learner paddlers have been enjoying their introduction to canoeing where they can learn the basics of the currents and rapids on the rivers. Among them were Deon Kearns and Johan Rademeyer from Rustenburg who both passed their proficiency requirements and can look forward to participation at the upcoming river races!
