Rustenburg Water Restrictions – October 2016
The ongoing drought in South Africa, rising temperatures and the resulting increase in water consumption are taking their toll on water- resources and supply in Rustenburg. This warranted the implementation of water restrictions in Rustenburg.
The Department of Water and Sanitation urged all the municipalities and water boards to implement water restrictions with immediate effect and reduce water use with 15%.
The Rustenburg Local Municipality implemented water restrictions which are in immediate effect and should be adhered to and regarded as serious as it is in the best interest of the Rustenburg community.
Affected areas in Rustenburg:
Geelhout Park extensions, Cashan extensions, Safari Garden extensions, Boschdal extension, Protea Park extensions, Kloof, Bo-Dorp, Rustenburg CBD, Waterval extensions, Wateval East extensions, Azalea Park, Waterkloof extensions, Zinniaville, Rustenburg North, Tlhabane extensions and Marikana.
Water restrictions:
Do not:
- Water gardens between 8:00 and 18:00
- Wash cars and paving, including drive ways, using hose pipes
- Fill up swimming pools during the day
- Perform any other activities that amount to misuse of water
Fines will be imposed on residents who do not adhere to these restrictions.
Consumers making use of boreholes must clearly indicate the existence of a borehole on their premises.
Bulk water users could assist by limiting its water use in the effort to increase water pressure. Where necessary the municipality will ration or divert water on a rotational basis to create higher pressure in other points of the system to restore water at least on a rotational basis in all areas. The Rustenburg Local Municipality will notify the residents which areas may experience low or no pressure of the expected schedule.
The RLM Customer Call Centre can be contacted at telephone number 014 590 3090/ 3668/ 3867 (24hrs) for any further information.
It is expected that this situation will continue until the end of the summer peak of this year (2016).
All consumers are urged to use water sparingly and comply with restrictions as it is in our own best interest.
