Noosi ready for round two at FNB Platinum Trail Run
Reigning FNB Platinum Trail Run champion, Teboho Noosi (Lesotho) will be back to defend his title at the 7th annual FNB Platinum Trail Run at the bustling ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday 02 June 2019.
Noosi’s finishing time of 01 hour 23 minutes 21 seconds secured him the top spot on the podium at the 2018 FNB Platinum Trail Run.
2018 was a good year for Noosi. After winning the FNB Platinum Trail Run, he ran the Cathedral Peak Challenge and won the Fastest Known Time (FKT). He then went on to finish 4th in the Soweto Marathon with a time of 2:22. At the end of 2018 he won the High Altitude Marathon in Mokhotlong, Lesotho.
“I have always been a road runner, but since last year I would now say that I am both a road runner and a trail runner,” says Noosi. “The Mokhotlong Marathon is not well known outside of Lesotho, but it is a very tough route that is set at an altitude of 2000 metres above sea level and has a total assent of 1100m. It attracts the best runners from Lesotho.”
“I am really looking forward to defending my title at the FNB Platinum Trail Run,” says Noosi. “I like the route, especially the climbing. I was very happy to claim gold in 2018 especially as it was only my second ever trail run. My goal is to retain my title.”
The 2019 FNB Platinum Trail Run will form part of Noosi’s training for the Sierre- Zinal Race in Switzerland. Noosi will be going for the course record that has stood for 16 years.
Noosi will face tough competition from well-known SA trail runner Givemore Mudzinganyama (Tembisa, Johannesburg).
Mudzinganyama has two FNB Platinum Trail Run victories behind his name having claimed gold in 2016 and 2017.
“It’s the environment that attracts me to this event,” says Mudzinganyama. “I enjoy being in the quiet Magaliesberg away from the CBD with family and friends. The FNB Platinum Trail Run route is great and ranges from runnable jeep-track to challenging climbs and technical mountain terrain. Teboho Noosi is a versatile athlete. It will be good to compete against him again. My goal is to win the race. My plan is to run as quick as possible. Hopefully there will be guys that will be willing to push from the word go.”
