What is microblading?
Microblading is the enhancement of brows by the insertion of pigment into the upper layers of skin by using a fine needle. It is a semi-permanent tattoo and is also called micro stroking, micro pigmentation, 3D eyebrows.
Why consider microblading?
The process is used to create eyebrow definition, cover gaps of lost hair or full reconstruction of the brow.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure takes 1 – 3 hours to complete and a touch-up procedure is needed to obtain the final result and prolong the results.
How long will results last?
1 – 3 Years.
What does the procedure entails?
The first step would be to ascertain what needs to be achieved.
The desired shape is then created.
The client should also be specific about the colour and density required.
Fine hair-like strokes to create tiny superficial cuts by a specialized hand tool is then performed during which pigment is deposited into the fine cuts.
This procedure is time consuming as each microblading stroke is applied individually.
Is the procedure painful?
Topical anaesthetics are applied to minimize discomfort.
What are the aftercare instructions?
Do not get the area wet for 48 hours after the procedure and apply microblading aftercare ointment on dry brows.
Avoid perspiration in the affected areas.
Avoid direct sunlight for 2 – 3 days after the procedure.
Resist scratching, peeling or scrubbing the area to avoid scarring, infections, pigment loss or discolouration.
Avoid using cleansing products containing exfoliants or acids ( Glycolic, Lactic or AHA)
Avoid airborne debris.
Keep avoiding chemical peels, forms of exfoliation, creams containing retinol or glycolic acid.
Touch-up procedure after 4 – 8 weeks.

Effects last for a long time as microblading is a semi-everlasting technique.
Con’s
As microblading is a procedure breaking the protective skin barrier the same risks applies to microblading and tattooing ie. Transmission of blood-borne pathogens, bacterial infections, reactions to pigments etc.
Misapplication of pigment and colour change.
It is an expensive procedure.
Aftercare should be adhered to.
Most of the con’s of the procedure can be minimized by ensuring the person performing the procedure is properly skilled and adhering to safety precautions under sterile conditions.
