Golfday for Môrester; AfriSam
AfriSam, leading black-controlled construction materials group, hosted a Golf Day for the Môrester Children’s home from Rustenburg. The event was held at the Mooinooi Golf Club where local businesses and community members rallied behind this charitable cause and 75 of golfers participated in the golf tournament. A total of R115 000 was raised through the event, ensuring that the children of Môrester have a home today and a future tomorrow. The children in the meanwhile enjoyed the jumping castle as well as the cooldrinks and goodies that were provided.
“Assisting in this initiative is a natural step for AfriSam as it is in line with our community involvement philosophy,” says Tsholo Diale, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at AfriSam.
“We believe in making a contribution to the lives of communities residing in areas within which we conduct our business operations and Morester fits this criteria perfectly as it is located a stone’s throw away from our Rustenburg readymix operation,” says Diale.
Mrs. Rustenburg finalists were also there to show their support to the children. Their support and love for the children are evident in every way. From the golf cart rides to the games that were played with them.
The day was perfect for golf, for games and boerewors rolls. That evening the prize-giving event took place and Antonette and Helen from Môrester expressed their gratitude to the people and businesses who continue to support them and the children.
“We would like to thank AfriSam as well as the community of Rustenburg for their involvement in the golf day and their generous donations. It will assist us in our daily duties of caring for these needy children,” says Antoinette Christian, House Mother at Môrester.
Môrester is a temporary place of safety for abandoned children and currently provides shelter to 37 children ranging from 0 to 16 years old. The home was founded over ten years ago as a place of safety for homeless people, until 2006 when it started catering for abandoned children. AfriSam’s involvement with the shelter goes back to 2010 when the company provided readymix concrete for the home’s newly-built playroom from its local operation. In addition, the company made a monetary contribution for the provision of basic necessities for the children as well as donated a minibus in 2012 to assist with the transport needs of the home.
