Atteridgeville Township Tour

Atteridgeville is a township located on the west of Pretoria and often referred to as the jazz capital of South Africa.

Established in 1939, Atteridgeville is a diverse township with many places of interest and a wide variety of cultures and languages.

Especially well-known for its many restaurants, shebeens and taverns, Atterdigeville is a popular tourist attraction for local as well as international tourists.

Home to many talented jazz artists and jazz lovers alike, Atteridgeville offers a wide variety of entertainment options to music lovers.

One of Atteridgeville’s most popular jazz collector’s clubs is Janicky’s Pub and Restaurant, an old house that’s been transformed into a unique party and live music venue. (Situated at 165 Moroe Street. Tel: +27 (0)12 373 4238.)

But apart from its many jazz clubs, Atteridgeville is also home to the Jazz in the Park concert, a famous gathering held every year on the Day of Goodwill, the 26th of December, at the Ga-Mothakga Resort. This event attracts thousands of jazz lovers from all over the world, and is considered one of the best and most known one-day jazz festivals in the world.

Home to the Jazz in the Park festival, the Ga-Mothakga Recreation Resort (Situated in Elias Motswaledii (old Church West) Street. The Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium, with a capacity of 28,900, is also situated in Atteridgeville.

The stadium is mostly used for football matches and serves as part-time home stadium of Premier Soccer League clubs Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns. The national football team of Germany used the stadium as a training venue during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The 64 926m² sized Atlyn Shopping Centre was the first Shopping Centre in Atteridgeville and is situated on the corner of Phudufufu and Nkosa Street.
