Faerie Glen Hiking Trails, Pretoria

Description

The trails at the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve offer outstanding views of the surrounding urban landscape as it takes you up to the highest point in the area as well as abundant vegetation and grassland due to the Moreleta Spruit flowing through the Reserve. The various trails each offer scenic and revitalizing passage through the reserve and hikers can enjoy both Highveld and Bushveld bird species found in the reserve. Visitors can pick from three hiking trails, or do a combination route. In short this is self-guided 10km network of circular trails.

Start

Hadeda Trail & Acacia Trail Start at the entrance of the Nature Reserve.  The Kiepersol Trail starts at the Hadeda Trail.

End

The Acacia Trail ends at the entrance. The Hadeda and Kiepersol trail connects and ends within the Acacia Trail.

Hadeda Trail: 2,3km

Acacia Trail: 3,2km

Kiepersol Trail: 4,2km

Duration

Depending on trial chosen, the duration can vary from 1 – 3hours.

Easy to slightly moderate.

Please Note

Hikers should be aware that the paths are not sufficiently marked (signposted) but the use of the map provided at the entrance should be sufficient. Guests can enjoy a relaxed and safe meander, although it is not recommended to visit the reserve alone.

Directions

From the N1, take the Atterbury turn-off to the east. At January Masilela (old Louis Botha Avenue) turn left and follow the directions to the reserve. The reserve will be on your right hand side just after Glenwood Road.
