Dinokeng: Africa in One Day
The Dinokeng Project, an initiative of the Gauteng Provincial Government, aims to encourage economic growth, job creation and social upliftment in the area known as Dinokeng.
The Dinokeng area, located in the north eastern quadrant of Gauteng, is about 25km from Pretoria and very easy to reach via the N4 highway.
A place full of culture and heritage, the area provides tourists with an “Africa in one day” experience.
The name Dinokeng – a place of rivers – is derived from the languages of the Batswana and Bapedi who traditionally made this region their home.

Dinokeng is an initiative with the objectives of establishing a premier tourism destination close to Johannesburg & Pretoria.
The Dinokeng destination, covering over 200 000 hectares, offers you a variety of experiences and includes the Roodeplaat and Rust de Winter dam areas, as well as the towns of Cullinan, Rayton, Hammanskraal, Moloto and Refilwe.
There are over 275 tourist attractions across Dinokeng, each with its own character and offerings. Some of the most popular attractions close to Pretoria includes the Roodeplaat Dam Angling Grounds, one of South Africa’s grandest colonial mansions the Sammy Marks Museum, the Diamantvallei Landgoed and Diamond Hill Country Venue.
The Dinokeng area also houses the De Haven Oos Funksie Venue, the cozy and intimate, The Willem Prinsloo Agricultural Museum.
Dinokeng destinations in Pretoria’s neighbouring towns of Rayton and Cullinan includes the Italian Prisoners of War Museum and Somabula Nature Reserve.
The Willow Valey Diary Farm is a popular destination for school outings, and the Windy Brow Game Reserve and McHardy House Museum are also family favourites.
The Zau Spa and Cullinan’s Gholfclub (9 hole) are also popular Dinokeng destinations.
