Hennops Revival team and volunteers cleans Arc Weir
The Hennops Revival team worked in partnership with a local company to remove 278 bags of refuse from the weir.
Tarryn Johnston and her team of environmentalists of the Hennops Revival turned their attention to the ARC weir in Doringkloof on Thursday afternoon with the help of a local company.
This weir suffers from constant littering and its water feeds into the Hennops, which means it is essential to keep it clean and clear of debris.
More than 50 volunteers chipped in to clean the weir.
After a long day of hard work, Johnston and her team removed a total of 278 bags of refuse from the weir.
In an attempt to further preserve the environment, the Hennops Revival team and volunteers planted 115 indigenous trees, including River Bushwillow and Wild Olive trees.
“We spent the day with an absolutely incredible and dedicated team,” said Johnston.
“It was a great team-building exercise, plus we got the opportunity to work alongside and see colleagues we haven’t seen in quite a while.”
The Hennops Revival Project is dedicated to saving the Hennops River.
This river runs through Centurion and is the source of the majority of the city’s water.
Johnston hoped that her project would also help raise awareness about the state of the river and encourage people to be more conscious of their environment.
“Water is a finite resource and it’s something we all have to share,” she said.
“But we take it for granted and treat it as if there is an infinite supply, and I want to change that mindset before it’s too late.”
