Brits Crocodile Attack: Young Boy in ICU After Losing Arm, Family Seeks Support
A seven-year-old boy remains in intensive care after a devastating crocodile attack near Brits, which tore off his arm. His family is now urgently seeking financial support to cover mounting medical costs.
Johandré Blom was enjoying a family fishing trip at Emanzini Fishing Resort at Roodekopjes Dam on Friday when tragedy struck. While playing in shallow water with a friend, a crocodile suddenly attacked, latching onto his arm.
His friend, Dylan, screamed for help and tried to pull him away, while Johandré’s father, Corné, leapt into action. After a terrifying struggle, Corné managed to wrench his son from the crocodile’s grip, but the boy’s left arm had already been torn off.
Johandré was rushed to Brits for emergency treatment before being airlifted to a hospital in Alberton, where he remains in an induced coma. Though stable, doctors are closely monitoring his condition as he faces a long and difficult recovery.
A family friend, Juan van der Merwe, has launched a BackaBuddy fundraiser to help cover medical expenses.
“All funds raised will go toward hospital bills and ongoing medical treatment,” said van der Merwe.
