Ten-year-old Eben Beukes received a hero’s welcome Home
The Centurion community warmly welcomed ten-year-old Eben Beukes home on June 6 after weeks of hospitalization. Eben, who endured severe complications from Covid-19 in December, received a moving escort from emergency services, community patrollers, and his school, symbolizing strong local support.
Throughout his ordeal, the Lyttelton community and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) remained deeply involved, offering emotional and practical support to Eben and his father, Hendrik. CPF chairperson Merle van Staden emphasized their commitment not only to crime prevention but also to community solidarity, highlighting the convoy as a symbol of unity.
Hendrik expressed profound gratitude for the widespread assistance following a public appeal, from small donations to corporate aid. He described the homecoming as an emotional milestone, underscoring the comfort found in community care and connection.
The family continues to welcome support via their BackaBuddy page and corporate donations through Caring Daisies. Those wishing to assist or contact Hendrik can call 061 462 1420.
