Mamelodi Secondary School Unveils Transformed Look
In a noteworthy initiative, Mamelodi Secondary School underwent a remarkable transformation with a R1.5-million facelift, a project spearheaded by PPG through its New Paint for a New Start Initiative. The school was abuzz with excitement as the company officially unveiled the vibrant results of its efforts.
This collaborative endeavor engaged over 80 South African volunteers, comprising PPG employees, customers, suppliers, and dedicated school teachers.
Together, they diligently worked on the refurbishment of more than 10 school buildings, which included 33 classrooms, railings, road markings, curbs, parking bays, signage, and various other enhancements.
The heart of the project was an 88m2 mural adorning the school’s central quad. Crafted by mural artist Murray Cowan, this visually stunning masterpiece aimed to inspire learners with meaningful imagery and messages. PPG’s commitment to community engagement shone through, emphasizing the importance of improving educational facilities in the communities where it operates.
Expressing gratitude, the school principal, Mogo Selahle, remarked, “Gratitude is the brush that colors the world with kindness.” Selahle extended heartfelt thanks to PPG for selecting their school for the Colorful Communities project, highlighting the transformative impact of the generous paint donation on the school environment.
Victor Motau, chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB), acknowledged the significance of the initiative and emphasized the need to protect the newly painted surfaces and school property. As a measure, parents have collectively agreed that any damages caused by learners would necessitate financial responsibility on the part of their parents.
The project not only refreshed the physical appearance of Mamelodi Secondary School but also echoed a broader commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment and contributing positively to the community.
