Hanna Charity – The 2014 Christmas Food Parcel Outreach
Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation and Round Table 201 are hosting their annual Christmas Outreach on Saturday 22 November in Elandspoort.
Here’s your chance to help…
Here’s all you need to know about the Christmas Food Parcel Outreach:
Elandspoort is a underprivileged suburb next to Danville where Hanna Charity is very actively involved. The charity has recently acquired a Church in Elandspoort from which they run their playgroup daily, host a bible study class with the men and women of the community, offer extra-curricular activities such as Karate, and facilitate Womanhood, Sisterhood and Brotherhood that promotes psychological as well as spiritual well-being for both adults and teens.
The also try to run a Soup Kitchen weekly where approximately 30 families receive food. Hanna Charity also has a Library in Elandspoort where children can come and do their homework in the afternoons and members of the community can take books out for free.
The charity also supports two underprivileged primary schools and two old age homes in the Pretoria West area. December month is usually quite hard on the community as there is very little help or support. This is why they host their annual Christmas Party for the entire community just before most businesses close for the year and most people leave to go on holiday.
What the day consists of:
– They provide food for approximately 1 500 adults and 500 children in Elandspoort.
– Each child receives a Christmas gift, totaling 500 Christmas presents given out (to the value of roughly R100 each)
– Each family receives a grocery pack with basic non-perishable food and toiletries, totaling 550 grocery packs given out (to the value of about R150 each)
They have decided to once again cook a meat and vegetable stew for the adults and hotdogs for the children, and will be letting the ladies of the community work at the office making food for the big day and then freezing the food until the day of the Outreach. Hanna Charity will also have entertainment such as face painting for the children and great music!
What they need for the Christmas outreach:
- Meat and vegetables for the stew.
- Raw rice.
- Second hand clothing.
- Gifts for the children (last year they gave each child a small backpack with the gift inside. Hanna Charity strives to give each child similar gifts so that no child feels they received “less” than another.) They would also appreciate it if people could donate money so that they can help keep the uniformity of the gifts.
- 2 x large tents to provide shade for where the food, clothing and gifts will be handed out.
- Artists to perform on the day.
- 500 hotdog rolls, viennas, tomato sauce and serviettes (Hotdog Café is already a possible sponsor)
- Persons to provide First Aid services
- Cold drink sponsor such as Coca Cola
- 1 500 containers for the packing of the food
- Sponsorships for the grocery packs – even if you just give money towards half a grocery pack it will make a difference.
