Who We Are

The Tshwane SPCA was founded in 1910 and operates in terms of the SPCA Act of 1993 that governs all SPCAs in South Africa. Our core function is the prevention of cruelty to animals and we do this through responding to reports of cruelty, neglect and abandonment, as well as educating the public on responsible pet ownership.

We have 2 branches (Waltloo and Centurion) and cover the largest metro in Africa.

The Tshwane SPCA was founded in 1910 and operates in terms of the SPCA Act of 1993 that governs all SPCAs in South Africa. Our core function is the prevention of cruelty to animals and we do this through responding to reports of cruelty, neglect and abandonment, as well as educating the public on responsible pet ownership.

We have 2 branches (Waltloo and Centurion) and cover the largest metro in Africa.

In 2010 our team of inspectors visited almost 22 000 animals and conducted almost 4 000 investigations. Working 24-hour days for 365 days a year, the inspectorate is the first and most powerful port of call for anyone who suspects that an animal is being abused.

The Tshwane SPCA also offers a range of additional services aimed at serving animals in need and promoting the humane treatment of animals.

Our Projects and Services include

• Sterilizations: offering affordable sterilizations for dog and cat owners
• Awareness: reaching at least one school per month and promoting responsible pet ownership
• Animal adoptions: promoting adoption of animals from animal shelters rather than buying animals
• Cruelty to animals: ongoing service to protect animals and respond to reports of animal cruelty

ii) Are you registered as a Public Benefit Organisation? Yes

iii) Are you able to issue a Section 18A certificate to donors so that their donations are tax-deductable? Yes

iv) What % of my donation does the organisation receive? 100% minus administrative and banking fees.

v) How will my donation be used? To support our services – mainly our inspectorate where the majority of their work is in the community and responding to calls where animals are in need.
