Help Us Save Over 90 Animals from Losing Their Homes
In a desperate fight for survival, 1 Stop Animal Rescue in Akasia, Pretoria North, is pleading for help after their lease was abruptly terminated. More than 90 dogs and five cats are at risk of losing their only safe haven if homes or land aren’t found by October 31st.
This organization, led by Mandi Luther, has provided love and care for these animals under the shade of trees on Eerste Avenue. Now, their time has run out. Despite their relentless efforts since September, which have already reduced the number of animals from 150 to under 100 through adoptions, the future remains uncertain.
Mandi, who has been running this rescue for nearly 10 years, is at her wits’ end. She, along with her assistant Vusi Dube, who commutes daily from Hammanskraal to care for the animals, is losing hope as they still haven’t found new land or space for the shelter.
Every animal deserves a second chance. Help us give it to them.
The shelter is home to animals with heartbreaking stories, like Mila, a dog found with a machete wound to her head, along with her puppies. Mila, like so many others, was given a second chance thanks to the dedication of Mandi and her team.
But now, that chance may be taken away. Without funding or municipal support, and with rising costs—just half a month’s food costing R8,000—this small, volunteer-run rescue is drowning in bills and running out of time.
Mandi, a single mom of a five-year-old, funds most of the organization’s expenses out of her small printing business. The city council’s process to apply for land could take 90 days—time they simply do not have.
The clock is ticking. We’re pleading with the public: please consider adopting, donating, or offering any possible solution for land. These animals have nowhere else to go, and we need your help now more than ever.
If you can assist in any way—be it adoption, transport, or suggestions for a new home—please reach out to Mandi Luther at 076 207 3640.
