Situated at the foot of Meintjieskop in the shadow of the stately Union Buildings. Even though Tiny Town is not a national monument, its location in the significant area surrounding the Union Buildings and the Union Gardens gives it a rich historic context.
The history of Tiny Town dates back to its construction in 1929, built by Dutch architect Hendrik Horstmanshof. It consists of 14 residential units which adopted the architectural style of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Eighty years later, Tiny Town stands in testimony to the skill and foresight of the designers.
Many decades of neglect had left the original structures in dire need of repair. Among the challenges faced by the current developers was the merging of old and new architectural styles and fittings.
Eighty years later, Tiny Town stands in testimony to the skill and foresight of the designers. In 2009 Tiny Town was restored and adapted for the requirements of the 21st century and the changing character of the area. Its history and context were still respected.
