Water restrictions underway in Tshwane
Rand Water, the water utility providing water to most Gauteng municipalities, has started with restricting all Tshwane meters to 20% in order to manage reservoir levels.
Last week, the City of Tshwane signalled to its residents the importance of saving water. Residents are again reminded not to falter but continue to heed the call of conserving water and making it a norm.
Though these restrictions are applicable throughout Tshwane, an earnest request is made to residents in the Soshanguve, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa and Winterveld areas in Region 1 to use water sparingly to avoid interruptions.
Residents are reminded of the following hints:
- Use grey water for watering gardens and flushing toilets.
- Report water leaks and burst pipes.
- Install water-saving devices.
- Where possible, install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators.
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
- Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
- Water gardens before 06:00 or after 18:00 and only when necessary.
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
- Collect rainwater for re-use in the garden or for washing the car.
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce evaporation.
- Take a shower rather than a bath.
- Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
Residents should continue conserving this scarce resource and make the abovementioned hints part of a lifestyle.
