Tshwane Reviews Decision to Reinstate Officials Suspended
The Tshwane metro is reviewing an arbitration ruling from the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC) concerning the controversial Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Works tender.
According to spokesperson Selby Bokaba, five senior officials were charged with misconduct due to irregularities in the tender process. The SALGBC has now directed that the officials, who were suspended, be reinstated.
The metro, however, is consulting legal advisors to determine its next course of action.
The officials have been on precautionary suspension since last year. Following a year-long internal disciplinary process, they were found guilty of one of four charges brought against them. The charges included gross negligence, citing their alleged failure to adhere to legislative, policy, and conduct standards in the tender award process.
