Stage 6 Loadshedding has made a return!
Stage 6 load shedding has made a return, and it’s expected to persist throughout the week.
Eskom, the power utility, has declared a move to stage 6 load shedding, marking the second time such an escalation has occurred in less than a week.
The schedule for the current round of load shedding includes a shift to stage 6 at 20:00 on Tuesday (28 November) until 05:00 on Wednesday. Subsequently, outages will revert to stage 4. This rotation between stage 4 and stage 6 will be maintained until Saturday.
Eskom attributes this escalation to the need for replenishing emergency reserves. Additionally, there has been a slight uptick in breakdowns, totaling an increase of 401 MW to 15,825 MW. Planned maintenance has also risen by 555 MW to 6,835MW of generation capacity.
As usual, Eskom has lots of Excuses and no clear way forward…
Over the last 24 hours, 1,300 MW of generation capacity has been restored, according to Eskom. The power utility reassures that it will diligently monitor the power system and communicate any changes to load shedding as necessary.
To implement this plan, Eskom will enforce stage 6 load shedding from 20:00 on Tuesday until 05:00 the next morning, followed by a reduction to stage 4 from 05:00 until 20:00. This pattern will repeat daily until Saturday morning.
Eskom acknowledges the increase in unplanned outages and planned maintenance but notes the return of 1,300 MW of generation capacity to service in the last 24 hours.
