Tuks Top Gold Medal Count but UJ Claims overall Crown
At the USSA Athletics Championships held at Pretoria’s Pilditch Stadium over the weekend, the University of Pretoria (Tuks) secured the highest number of gold medals (13) but finished second overall with 278 points. The University of Johannesburg (UJ) claimed the team title, amassing 322 points and 33 total medals.
Northwest University narrowly trailed Tuks with 276 points. Tshwane University of Technology placed fifth on 145 points, earning nine medals (three gold). Tuks’ female athletes were particularly dominant, accounting for nine of their ten individual golds, highlighted by Colette Uys’s three and Karabo Mailula’s two top-flight performances.
