The double World Cup-winning Pollard returns
The Vodacom Bulls can confirm the signing and return to Loftus Versfeld of Springbok flyhalf, Handre Pollard.
The double World Cup-winning Pollard returns home on an initial two-year deal, which begins on the 1st of July.
Handré Pollard, the double World Cup winner, is set to return to South Africa with the Vodacom Bulls on a two-year deal, starting on July 1st.
Pollard, a former Junior Boks captain, began his European journey with French Top 14 side Montpellier, where his impressive performances caught the eye of English club Leicester Tigers, the team he currently represents.
Before leaving for Europe in 2019, the 30-year-old had made 62 appearances for the Vodacom Bulls, amassing 629 points, which included 11 tries, 119 penalties, 104 conversions, and four drop goals. Now, he returns to further build on that remarkable record.
“I am truly grateful for this opportunity,” Pollard said, reflecting on his return to Loftus. “It’s something I don’t take for granted. After a few amazing years overseas, I’m beyond excited to come home.”
Pollard continued: “I started my career at the Vodacom Bulls, and those six years were instrumental in shaping both the person and player I am today. This team and franchise have always held a special place in my heart, and I can’t imagine myself playing anywhere else in South Africa.”
Looking ahead, Pollard expressed his eagerness to run out at Loftus once again: “I’m looking forward to playing in front of the proud Vodacom Bulls supporters.”
As Leicester Tigers prepare for a crucial weekend in their season, Pollard took a moment to express his gratitude and reaffirm his commitment to the club. “Leicester Tigers, I’m incredibly proud to have been part of this club. The last three seasons have been some of the most enjoyable of my career, and I will always be grateful for my time here. There’s still plenty of rugby to be played, and I’m determined to finish my time at Leicester on a high.”
Edgar Rathbone, CEO of BBCo., expressed excitement about Pollard’s return to Loftus, noting the value of his experience for the team. “It’s fantastic to welcome Handré back to a place where he has so many great memories. He was a fan favorite during his previous time here, and many were saddened when he left for overseas opportunities. We’re thrilled to bring him back, and I’m sure South African fans will be just as excited to see him wearing the Vodacom Bulls shirt again.”
Rathbone added: “Pollard left us as a 24-year-old with immense potential, and now he returns six years later, more mature and seasoned, with a wealth of international experience. He has gone from 39 Springbok caps to 80, and his extensive club rugby experience will be invaluable to us as we continue to push for silverware in competitions against top European clubs.”
Concluding, Rathbone emphasized the importance of Pollard’s experience for the team: “With the average age of our squad, Pollard’s leadership and expertise will be crucial as we continue to develop and strive for success.”
