Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies striker Andisiwe Mgcoyi scored six goals as the African champions claimed an emphatic 7-0 victory against Ma-Indies Ladies on Tuesday at the Bidvest Stadium.
After flexing their goal-scoring muscles against Richmond United three days earlier, Banyana Ba Style was aiming to finish off the season on a high and the table-toppers did so in style, putting on a goal-scoring masterclass.
“I am very thankful to everyone that has believed in me even when the goals were not flowing.
No matter how many runs, assists, and great passes a striker has, the most important unit of contribution for a forward remains the goals. It has been an amazing season for me and I am very proud of these achievements.
It is only natural for other teams to strive hard to dethrone us from our winning pedestal. Nevertheless, we plan to come back better and stronger,” Mgcoyi said. It marks a perfect end to the season for Mgcoyi who was named the ‘Woman of the Match’ after scoring one and assisting another during the final of the inaugural edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
“I am dedicating my goal-scoring awards this season to my teammates because they made it possible. One of my aims was to score 25 goals across all competitions this season and I am very grateful because I scored more than I wished for.
This golden boot award will motivate me to do more for the team. Overall, it was a remarkable season for us and I am very excited to be a part of this record-breaking team,” she said.
The 7-0 drubbing of Ma-Indies Ladies ensured that The Brazilians finished the Hollywoodbets Super League this season with a bang. It brings an end to a glittering season for Sundowns Ladies who clinched the treble for the first time in their history. Aside, from successfully defending their title in the Women’s National Premier League, The Brazilians also clinched the COSAFA Women’s Champions League crown and bossed the continent’s premier women’s tournament in Egypt
