Pretoria Judoka Eyes Olympic Glory
Timothy Meuwsen, a young and dedicated judoka from Pretoria, is determined to represent South Africa at the Olympic Games. Fresh off winning a bronze medal in the under-81kg category at the African Judo Championships in Abidjan, Meuwsen now ranks 85th globally—his first appearance in the top 100.
A member of the Tuks Judo Club, Meuwsen trains three times a day, six days a week, driven by a passion that began in his school days.
Originally a rugby enthusiast, he discovered judo through a friend and quickly became devoted to the sport.
“I can’t explain it, but I kept going back to judo classes. The more I trained, the more I loved it. Judo has changed my life,” he said.
Focused, disciplined, and passionate, Meuwsen is now chasing his long-held dream of Olympic competition.
