Pretoria Clubs Gear Up for 2025 SA Rugby Gold Cup Showdown

Three Pretoria-based rugby clubs—Naka Bulls, Centurion, and Harlequins—will compete in the 2025 SA Rugby Pick n Pay Gold Cup, a national knockout championship for non-university clubs, starting on 27 September. Naka Bulls, the reigning champion from 2023 and 2024, aim for a third consecutive win, facing tough competition from other provincial clubs such as Durban’s Crusaders and College Rovers, and Johannesburg’s Pirates.
The tournament features 32 teams divided geographically into North and South sections. Matches are knockout-style, with the last team standing from each section meeting in the grand final on 27 October. Notable participants include historic clubs Hamilton-Sea Point and Villager, marking 150th and 149th anniversaries respectively, and seven current or former national club champions.
