A rising star in the local golf scene, found a new level of confidence for his career after securing his first professional triumph at the Altron Big Easy Tour held at Blue Valley Golf Estate last week.
In the final round of the Altron Big Easy Tour, Williamson showcased his golf prowess with an impressive four-under-par 68, finishing at 13-under-par 203. This accomplishment granted him a three-shot victory over competitors Dayne Moore from Zambia and LB Boshoff.
Entering the final round with a one-stroke lead, Williamson needed a robust start to maintain his momentum. He delivered, with three birdies in the first five holes. After securing pars on the sixth and seventh, he added another birdie on the par-three eighth.
Although facing a setback with his third bogey just before the turn, Williamson displayed resilience, bouncing back with a birdie on the par-four 11th. Throughout the round, he navigated challenges with the composure of a seasoned professional.
Reflecting on his maiden Tour victory, the 28-year-old Irene Golf Club member expressed, “It’s difficult to put it into words right now. Golf is a funny game. I haven’t played much tournament golf in the last few months, apart from the odd Big Easy here or there. I’ve been really busy with work, and just getting out on the golf course has been a struggle in the last few months. My goal for the week was just to enjoy the game because, with the way my golf has been going the last few years, it’s easy to dig yourself into a rut and not appreciate the small victories. One of those is just enjoying the game for what it is, and this week, I did that. The results took care of themselves. So, sometimes less is more.”
Acknowledging the tough competition in Centurion, Williamson recognized the strength of professional golf in South Africa. Despite formidable challenges from in-form players, including Dayne Moore’s final-round 63, he emerged victorious.
The Blue Valley Golf Estate event marked the sixth of the 10 Altron Big Easy Tournaments for the season, with the upcoming tournament scheduled at Kyalami Golf Club in early December.
