Japan embassy in Pretoria thanks Boks for rugby growth
The previous meeting between the Boks and Japan had a very huge impact on Japanese rugby growth.
The Japanese embassy in Groenkloof hosted the community, sports personalities and foreign dignitaries for the screening of the World Cup warm-up match between the Springboks and Japan on Friday afternoon.
A hat-trick of tries by left-wing Makazole Mapimpi in an emphatic 41-7 win maintained the Springboks’ impressive pre-World Cup form.
Although the Boks and Japan had only met once before Friday’s game at Kumagaya, their previous meeting had a very huge impact on Japanese rugby. Japan beat the Boks 34-32 in the 2015 World Cup that was declared one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.
The second secretary of the embassy of Japan in South Africa Akari Watanabe said the screening was part of the effort to strengthen the sporting relationship between SA and Japan.
