Fun walk roll held in Nellmapius
The fun walk/roll was also an awareness campaign about the rights of persons with disabilities.
People living with disabilities have been encouraged to live a healthy lifestyle and know their rights.
The second annual disability rights awareness fun walk/roll was held in Nellmapius extension 22 on Saturday. It was organized by Rehoboth-Rapture for persons with special abilities.
Founder and chairperson of the organization, Ernest Furumele said the fun walk/roll was an annual event held to promote fitness and to encourage people living with disabilities to live a healthy lifestyle.
The fun walk/roll was also an awareness campaign about the rights of persons with disabilities and as well as celebrating national disability rights month and eradicating disability stigma in different communities.
2nd Annual Disability Rights Awareness Fun Walk/Roll held at Nellmapius extension 22 on Saturday morning.
“The event is growing every year and had the support of the community of Mamelodi and Nellmapius. The event was one of the many more to come annually,” said Furumele, encouraging parents or families who have people living with disabilities not to hide them.
“It is time they come out from hiding and families must stop being ashamed of them,” he said.
“The organization was formed in 2014 to help youths living with disabilities to get jobs, keep them busy, and help them overcome their problems. We are trying to build youths with disabilities into successful people so that disabled people can also have a role in the community,” said Furumele.
