CEO walks from Pretoria to Cape Town to empower youth
The journey – a staggering 2,750 km – began on 18 July, also known as Mandela Day, and will end on 24 November, when Dr Nico de Klerk will arrive at the Houses of Parliament in Cape Town.
De Klerk is the CEO of StreetBiz Foundation, a non-profit organisation created to help the youth prepare for the working world through workshops led by volunteer facilitators or De Klerk himself.
The organisation’s mission is “to have an impact on the entrepreneurial spirit in South Africa in a positive way,” with the long-term focus to establish an informal business school and to maximise technology’s contribution in communities across South Africa.
Youth and unemployed South Africans make up approximately 30%, or 17 million out of the total population of the country. De Klerk wants to turn the spotlight to the many ways in which we can uplift and empower the youth.
