Amajita Miss Out On AFCON Final
U20 Africa Cup Of Nations
Result: Senegal 1-0 South Africa
Date: 13 February 2019
Venue: Stade Général Seyni Kountché
Amajita missed out on a spot in the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations final following a 1-0 loss to Senegal in the semi-final on Wednesday night in Niamey.
Amajita qualified for the semi-finals and secured a 2019 World Cup ticket after finishing second in Group A, while Senegal topped Group B with maximum points.
South Africa were under pressure in the early stages and were lucky not to concede in the 13th minute after Faly Ndaw unleashed a left-footed shot inside the box that sailed slightly at the near post.
The Senegalese could not find the breakthrough despite dominating the majority of the first stanza, while the South Africans were unable to mount any serious attempts at goal.
Senong’s troops were still under siege in the early stages of the second stanza, but they had goalkeeper Khulekani Kubheka to thank for keeping the Senegalese at bay.
Amajita introduced their first change on the hour-mark as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo came on for Kobamelo Kodisang as Senong pushed for an opening goal.
However, Senegal finally broke the deadlock 20 minutes before time courtesy of an own goal by Givemore Khupe who deflected a strike into his own net.
