Russian cellist returns to Unisa

The award-winning Russian cellist Alexander Ramm will perform at Unisa with pianist Bryan Wallick on Saturday 1 June at 4pm in the Miriam Makeba Concert Hall.
The award-winning Russian cellist Alexander Ramm will perform at Unisa with pianist Bryan Wallick on Saturday 1 June at 4pm in the Miriam Makeba Concert Hall.
Audience members may remember him from the 5th Unisa International String Competition in 2010 where he won second prize. He continued to have success in other competitions, notable the third prize at the prestigious Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki (2013) and the Silver Medal at the Tchaikovsky International Competition (Moscow, 2015).
Mr Ramm is constantly touring, receiving glowing reviews and captivating audiences. Recent highlights include a concert with the State Borodin Quartet at the Philharmonie de Paris and appearances with conductors Michail Jurowski and Valery Gergiev.
The programme for the first half of the recital on Unisa’s main campus consists of Beethoven’s sonata in G minor, Op 5 no 2 and Benjamin Britten’s first solo cello suite.
After interval the audience will be treated to Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso and the Sonata in G minor by Chopin.
US-South African pianist Bryan Wallick will accompany Mr Ramm.
Tickets are sold at the door for R140 (adults) and R110 (students and pensioners).
