Preschools Unite in Mamelodi to Champion Children’s Rights
More than 20 early childhood development centres from Mamelodi East and the far-east region came together on last week Friday 9th of May 2025, for a powerful awareness campaign advocating for the rights and well-being of children.
The event, spearheaded by the Rainbow Forum, saw young children from foundation phase classes take to the streets, marching from Section A1 near the Engen Garage in Mamelodi West to the Softball sports grounds. Along the route, they held up placards bearing strong messages about children’s rights, aiming to educate the broader community.
Eulenda Mahlangu, a representative of the Rainbow Forum, explained that this annual initiative is designed not only to instill awareness of children’s rights at an early age but also to introduce vital topics such as drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and various forms of abuse in a way that’s accessible and meaningful to young minds.
“This campaign empowers children by giving them a platform to be seen and heard. It’s about laying a foundation for a safer, more informed generation,” Mahlangu said.
The march was supported by local police, social workers, and the community policing forum, reflecting a strong collaborative effort to protect and uplift children in the area.
