Voortrekker Monument Newsletter – September 2020
News
Heritage Day
We were very busy on Heritage Day with lots of cultural demonstrations as well as a Volkspele dance group on the site. Our Rebuild the Monument project also started another phase on the day where people are now able to ‘buy’ items, figures, horses etc. from the marble frieze panels. Currently, only items from panels 1, 3. 4. 8 and 10 are for ‘sale’.
We have had interest in this project from all over the world and we have had buyers from the USA, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Flanders, Sweden the UK and the UAE.
The price of items vary from R500 to R10 000 and there is something for everyone. If you are interested go and have a look at www.voortrekkermonument.co.za.
New Water Saving Plan
Our most sincere thanks to Earthcon Construction who completed the installation of 12 JOJO water tanks on the site this month. They used their own personnel to complete the task free of charge and also donated pressure pumps, safety boxes and water pipes to the Monument. We hope the water tanks will help us to bring down the cost of our current water bill of R80 000 per month.
Donation
Our sincere thanks to H van Rensburg Sand who donated 5m² building sand to the Monument.
It will be used to build the new niches in our Garden of Remembrance.
