Uncle Jakkie
An initiative of The Voortrekkers was launched at the Monument in August.
Seventy seven year old uncle Jakkie van der Colff, took off from here on his bicycle on his way to the Taal Monument in Paarl. His journey will take 35 days and he will visit 50 towns on his journey. He tackled the journey in aid of an awareness campaign for The Voortrekkers.
Visits
Two groups of Monument personnel, who had never been to either Fort Klapperkop or Freedom Park, visited the sites this month. We think it is important to know what our neighbours look like.
Conference
Our Tourism Officer, Charlotte Drotsky, attended the Attractions Africa Conference in Cape Town this month.
Representatives from the biggest tourism attractions in the country attend this conference annually.
Blitz Skate Board Race
This race took place at Fort Schanskop in July but we had to wait for the photos. Previously this race was known as the King of the Fort and was very popular among skateboarders. The new name is Blitz and the organizers hope to expand the number of competitors next year because it is very popular among all of them.
Monumental Cantus
At the end of this year’s choir performance on 24 August, each choir received a certificate from Louis Trichardt (5th generation).
If you have not yet heard the Magaliesberg Youth Choir, you should make a plan to attend this event next year.
They are absolutely incredible.
