Update: Power failure affecting Pretoria CBD
07 August 2019
The City’s technicians were unable to restore power supply in Pretoria Central Business District (CBD) which was anticipated to be back around 21:00 last night. This follows two main feeder cable faults that were reported in Queen Street substation yesterday morning.
According to the Utility Services Department, there is a recurring trip each time an effort to switch back on is made. Preliminary investigations into the cause of the frequent trip revealed an underground water pipe leak onto the main cable that feeds Queen Street substation. Currently, technicians are busy with excavation to re-direct the cable. It is not yet known when power supply will be restored.
The City’s technicians have managed to switch power back on to some of the affected customers through back-up supply.
Sections of the following streets in the CBD are still without power:
- Madiba
- Thabo Sehume
- Johannes Ramokhoase
- Helen Joseph / WF Nkomo (Church)
- Paul Kruger
- Lilian Ngoyi
The City apologises for the inconvenience that might arise from this interruption.
All customers affected by power failures are urged to report in order to establish the extend of the outage. Customers should report at Customer Care Centres on 012358999 OR SMS the word “power” to 44676.
Residents are urged to treat all network points as live at all times
