The City of Tshwane to Implement Water Restrictions
Yesterday, 3 October 2022, Rand Water, the water utility, notified the City of Tshwane and other Metros (City of Johannesburg and City of Ekurhuleni) about the implementation of Stage 2 water restrictions.
The water utility indicated that it had noted over the last 2 weeks that water consumption had increased significantly resulting in a decline in their overall reservoir storage capacity from 52% to 38%. This necessitated Rand Water to implement, with immediate effect, Stage 2 (30%) restrictions on several high-consuming customer meters within each municipality, in order to reduce the current high-water consumption.
Rand Water further indicated that the restrictions are to ensure that their overall reservoir storage capacity is restored back to 60%.
It is for the above reason that the City of Tshwane must comply with Rand Water’s directive by implementing Stage 2 water restrictions to prevent the water utility and municipality’s bulk water supply systems from collapsing and running dry.
Stage 2 water restrictions entail prohibition of the following with immediate effect:
• No irrigation or watering of gardens with a hosepipe or irrigation systems.
• No using of a hosepipe to clean driveways or patios
The City apologizes for the inconvenience that may arise as a result of this planned maintenance work.
