Temporary shutdown of the Temba Water Treatment Plant
25 October 2019
The City of Tshwane’s Utility Services Department has as of yesterday, 24 October 2019 temporarily shut-down the Temba Water Treatment Plant (TWTP) as a result of raw water quality challenges from Leeukraal dam.
These challenges came as a result of a power failure at Pyramid substation due to a lighting strike on Friday, October 18 2019 which caused the Rooiwa l Waste Water Treatment Works to discharge partially treated effluent into the Apies River which feeds the Leeukraal dam.
The plant is expected to resume operations within the next 7 to 10 days provided the raw water quality has improved.
In order to ensure water provision to the residents, the City has made an arrangement with Magalies Water to increase the pumping capacity into Babelegi reservoir. In addition, roaming tankers will supply residents with water until the situation normalises.
