Temporary Closure of Tshwane House Building
14 JUNE 2020
The City of Tshwane wishes to inform the public of the temporary closure of three of its buildings for four working days, from 15 June to 18 June 2020, after staffers tested positive for COVID-19.
The City’s Head Office, Tshwane House, Mini Munitoria in Mamelodi West and the Silverton Fire Station have been temporarily closed with immediate effect and will be re-opened on Friday, 19 June 2020, for business continuity. The interior of the buildings will be disinfected during the evacuation period to combat the spread of COVID-19 infectious risk emanating from the reported positive cases.
All contacts will be traced and managed according to the Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. Group Property Department and the Private Party will ensure adherence to the City of Tshwane’s Standard Operating Procedure on buildings with confirmed COVID-19 positive cases.
During the disinfection and deep cleaning of the buildings, all employees working at the three affected buildings are encouraged to work from home during the temporary closure period and take the necessary precautionary measures where necessary to observe Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) directives and protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The City’s management has provided all its employees with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), routinely disinfects the exterior and interior of its buildings, screens and hand sanitises everyone entering any of its buildings. The City has also made it compulsory for anyone entering any of its buildings or using its facilities to wear a face cloth mask and observe physical distancing.
Head Administrator Mpho Nawa said the City has a comprehensive workplace COVID-19 management plan which is backed by expertly advised protocols and guidelines.
“We will continue to take all precautionary measures aimed at protecting our employees as well as the public from contracting the Coronavirus. We appeal to all the stakeholders to cooperate with us as we collectively deal with the pandemic to minimise its spread within the capital City,” Nawa said.
All the City’s Departments have been advised to make alternative business continuity measures such as Microsoft Teams and to communicate the notice to all staff members especially those without access to Microsoft outlook.
The City will ensure that services that were rendered at the three affected buildings are re-directed to other offices to ensure continuation of service delivery to its residents while protecting the health and safety of its employees and that of the public.
