Sunnyside planning Christmas feast for homeless
A Sunnyside non-profit organisation and the Methodist Church youth are planning to give the homeless in the area a merry festive season.
NPO, Sunnyside Up aims to change the lives of Sunnyside residents by making the streets safe and clean.
Organiser Leandre Chulu said they were planning a Christmas breakfast for about 200 people, and also donate blankets, toiletries and clothes on Saturday 25 November.
“In the spirit of giving, we would like to extend a kind hand to those who are less fortunate by spreading some Christmas cheer at the end of the year.
They are the ones in need and hopefully, if we try and help where we can it will give them hope and stop them the need from begging or resorting to stealing,” Chulu said.
She said this was their first of many such Christmas events.
“The breakfast is fully sponsored by only donations from the public, however, we still need a few things like viennas, eggs, juice, coffee, toiletries and chairs,” she said adding they also needed volunteers to wait on the homeless on the day.
