Whether you are an individual or corporate, you could show your support for cancer Survivors by raising funds online to help fund our Care & Support programmes.

Promoting your fundraising page will also raise awareness about cancer, so be sure to include info regarding how to reduce cancer risk so that all your contacts may benefit.

Our Shavathon Online Fundraising Competition closes at midnight 31st March 2016, so there’s still plenty of time to build up to Shavathon (27th Feb to 4th March), and to approach potential donors for online donations until 31st March.

In 2015, Regina Giudici, 2nd place winner, raised R12 000 from 24 online donors through her fundraising page – she shaved her hair, as well. Regina shared her motivation for raising funds: “Cancer truly is a disease that destroys and I just wanted to do this for everyone that has suffered and survived, but also those people, like myself, whose loved ones have not survived. I also wanted to raise money through my friends and family for a cause that really and truly deserves it.”

Says Taryn Gavin: “My hair is finally long enough to donate, so this is the year I do it. Please support this cause by reaching in to your wallets and giving, every little bit helps, so don’t be shy or embarrassed by thinking your donation will be too small to make a difference, it all adds up!

Says Mitchell Parker: I change my hair a lot. This time, it’s getting a closer cut that I’m used to: Shavathon! Over the last two years, my hair has gone from long, brown and curly to short, black and straight. It’s been blue. It’s been red. It’s been purple… and everything inbetween. It changes so frequently that Mitch Hair Change Whiplash isn’t uncommon.

At the end of February, I’m planning on making the most dramatic change of all: shaving it all off for the CANSA Shavathon. Multiple members of my family have been diagnosed with cancer. My grandfather, a man I have and will never meet, left this world because of it. As such, it’s a cause that is close to my heart.

So, you want to see the next stage in the evolution that is The Hair? Excellent.

Shavathons at Shopping Centres

Popular radio station, HOT91.9FM will once again do a live broadcast from the Shavathon at RandRidge Mall on Sat 27 Feb 2016.

CANSA Lowveld will be hosting a Shavathon in Hazyview at Sabi River Sun, which is part of the Tsogo Sun Group. Every lady who shaves or sprays her head will receive a pink rose as a gift courtesy of Summerfield Rose Farm in Hazyview. A 5 km fun run and Pink Golf event will also be held. Read more…

The SANBS will be hosting a Blood Drive & Shavathon, if you wish to support two great causes at one time!

Be sure to join the action at YOUR community’s participating shopping centres on Saturday 27 Feb and invite your whole family, all your friends and colleagues to jazz up their hairdo with funky colour sprays and stencil designs, to make a hair donation or to be brave and shave!

Whatever your choice of hairdo, you can add the final touch with a colourful CANSA wrap, which can be purchased for R30 at the event.

Cancer Survivors (patients) often lose their hair as a result of treatment, which can be very traumatic for them. Shaving your head at Shavathon is a way to show them that you recognise this fact and that you care. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of cancer, so that people seeing your shaved head can be motivated to reduce their cancer risk. Read our Shavathon FAQs if you need more info…

If you aren’t able to host an event or raise funds online, join us at a public Shavathon event at your nearest participating shopping centre. If you are not certain which shopping centres are participating this year, contact your local CANSA Care Centre.
