Rooiwal Water Treatment Plant
2 September 2019
Following an order by the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation that the City of Tshwane should address concerns in respect of water treatment at the Rooiwal plant, the municipality can today, September 2 2019, confirm that it has heeded and fulfilled the directive.
According to the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Utility Services, Councillor (Cllr) Abel Tau, the presence of the portfolio committee, last Friday, August 30 2019, was embraced by the leadership of the metropolitan municipality as it demonstrated sound relations between the oversight committee and our local government. “Within a twenty-four hour period we ensured the application of chlorine in the plant in order to disinfect water before it is reprocessed,” said Cllr Tau.
The City remains committed to providing potable water and guarantees effective treatment of effluent to mitigate health risks to residents in and around Hammanskraal.
In addition, Cllr Tau commended the Hammanskraal residents for their understanding and cooperation when the City effected a planned water interruption from 26 until 28 August 2019, for maintenance work at the Renstown, Babelegi and Hammanskraal West Reservoirs.
