Power restored to the affected consumers in Atteridgeville
13 December 2019
The City of Tshwane’s team of technicians has finally managed to restore power to all the areas in Atteridgeville which were affected by the extended power outage.
The outage was caused by a medium voltage switchgear failure at the substation. The switchgear panels faulted due to voltage flashover in the busbars chamber.
“I want to thank our team that worked tirelessly in the last two days to ensure that power is restored in the area. I also want to express my gratitude to the affected consumers for their patience regardless of the inconvenience that these outages have caused to them. Our teams will continue to work around the clock in the rest of the areas which are still experiencing outages across the City”, said the City’s Acting Executive Mayor, who is the Member of the Mayoral Committee, responsible for Utility Services, Cllr Abel Tau,
Customers in the areas that are still experiencing outages are reminded that all electrical points should be treated as live at all times. The City apologises for the inconvenience that these outages have caused to the consumers.
“Other milestones related to interruptions caused by the current deluge is the normalization of power outages in Region 4 – south of Pretoria. We have now enlisted professional expertise to augment the various teams dealing with water and electricity in the affected areas. In anticipation of possible heavy rains in the next coming days, the City has upped its operations to be on stand-by and has established a war room to deal proactively with disaster issues”, concluded Cllr Tau.
