Fountains pipeline burst impacts on water supply
4 September 2019
Water supply to various areas on the margins of Pretoria CBD are experiencing water disruption again as the main water supply pipeline, in Fountains vicinity, burst again this morning.
“What is of great concern is that the damage to the pipeline has caused loss of thousands of gallons of usable and drinkable water which is being supplied to the affected areas. We have reactivated proficient resources to work on the 1000mm pipe and ensure that our customers receive water as soon as possible”, said the Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Utility Services, Councillor (Cllr) Abel Tau, who had visited the gushing site.
Water supply interruption is affecting the following target groups:
- Sunnyside, Salvokop, Arcadia, Clydesdale as well as south of Pretoria CBD
- Health facilities (Hospitals)
- Old age homes
- National and Provincial government departments
- Tertiary institutions and schools
- Embassies
“We are mindful that this second burst in a short space of time leaves residents and the business community in distress. The City is committed to resolving this looming water outage with promptness. About 100 water tankers have been arranged and will be deployed at strategic points in consultation with ward councillors to supply water to the consumers,” noted MMC Tau.
Given that this is a major bulk line which requires intense repair work, the exact estimated water supply restoration period will be provided soon. Customers are urged to follow @CityTshwane for updates on Twitter.
