Faulty power transformer causes blackout in Centurion
12 March 2019
In an effort to ensure the provision of electricity to some residents and business operators in Centurion, South of Pretoria, City of Tshwane’s team of technicians will (today) continue with repairs and maintenance to the failed Brakfontein transformer.
On Sunday, March 10 2019, several suburbs experienced blackout when one of the transformers failed to transmit and distribute power to households in Region 4 of the metropolitan municipality. The assigned team of electrical engineers succeeded yesterday in restoring power to less than a handful of suburbs. The team remains diligent and hopeful that power supply will be realised to all areas soon.
Residents, and businesses alike, are informed that the load rotation schedule communicated yesterday will still be applicable today. The schedule merely serves as a guide, and at times due to overload as well as unforeseen challenges on the electricity network – an area that was pre-arranged to receive power may be disadvantaged.
Hereunder is the power supply load rotation schedule:
Time | Areas to be switched on | Areas to be switched off |
07:30 until 12:30 | The Reeds, The Reeds South and Amberfield | Wierdapark and Heuweloord |
12:30 until 17:30 | Wierdapark, Heuwloord, The Reeds and The Reeds South | Amberfield |
17:30 until 22:30 | Amberfield, Heuwloord and Wierdapark | The Reeds and The Reeds South |
22:30 until 03:30 | The Reeds, The Reeds South and Amberfield | Wierdapark and Heuwloord |
Due to the widespread fault to the transmission system, it is taking longer to fix the transformer – something that the City apologises for and would like to stress its commitment to supplying electricity to the affected consumers.
Consumers are advised to treat all electrical points as live.
Affected customers are urged to report power failures by SMS. SMS the word power followed by your account number to 082 612 0333. Or report a power failure to 012 358 9999, choosing the electricity option.
