City urges TRT commuters to seek alternative transport
30 JULY 2019
The City of Tshwane has also suspended the Mamelodi operations of the Tshwane Rapid Transit (TRT) which has been functioning despite the ongoing labour protest action by its employees since last week Friday, 26 July 2019.
“This operation had to be suspended with immediate effect today after a group of City employees in private vehicles and a Tshwane Bus Services (TBS) bus blocked the entrance to Watloo Station. Five of our TRT buses were caught up in the blockade and had to be driven back to the depot”, said the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport Sheila Lynn Senkubuge.
Commuters are urged to seek other transport alternatives until further notice.
“It is not easy to take a decision to suspend bus operations especially considering the inconvenience that comes with it, however, the safety of our passengers and property had to be prioritised”, concluded MMC Senkubuge.
The City will continue to update residents of any developments regarding the strike action and would like to urge commuters to remain patient during this period.
