City of Tshwane’s internet services interruption
The City of Tshwane has been informed by its Internet Service Provider(SITA) that it requires electricity downtime to upgrade its Centurion Data Centre on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 November 2022.
This upgrade work, which is scheduled to start on Saturday at 14h00 and is expected to be completed on Sunday at 10h00, will affect the city’s internet-related services.
In order to safeguard the city’s network and server equipment hosted at SITA, Tshwane will shut down all its ICT equipment from 13h00 on Saturday and will switch back on after 14h00 on Sunday once the city receives confirmation from SITA that it is safe to do so.
During the downtime period, consumers will not be able to purchase any electricity from third-party vendors. Vending of electricity through the internet like banking apps, ATMs, retail shops, garages, spaza shops, and cellphones, will not be working.
The city has, however, made arrangements for customers to purchase electricity, during the said period, from the below listed Customer Care Walk-in Centres:
• Middestad
• Mamelodi Mini Munitoria
• Atteridgeville
• Soshanguve Block F
• Akasia
• Sinoville
• Centurion
• Olievenhoutbosch
• Bronkhorstspruit
• Hammanskraal
These centers will operate from 08h00 to 14h00 on Saturday and from 08h00 to 12h00 on Sunday. While the Walk-in centers will be operating, customers are advised to ensure that they have adequate electricity to take them through the weekend.
Below are other services that will be affected by the downtime:
• Internet access
• External email delivery
• City of Tshwane public-hosted websites
• Virtual Private Network (VPN) access
• All other City of Tshwane solutions that are internet-dependent
The City of Tshwane apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise as a result of this essential maintenance to be carried out by SITA.
Issued by the Communication, Marketing, and Events Department.
