City donates teddies to Steve Biko Academic Hospital
18 July 2019
Children at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital’s paediatric ward were full of giggles and pretty smiles today as they received gifts from the City of Tshwane’s Deputy Speaker Councillor (Cllr) Zweli Khumalo as part of the International Mandela Day Commemoration.
The donation, which was in partnership with ABC Sweets, saw 140 sick children receiving teddy bears and goodie packs. Cllr Khumalo was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Dr Mmabatho Mathebula.
“As a caring City, we thought of doing something that will brighten up their day and bring a smile to their little faces. A nation is judged by its children and this initiative comes from the heart of each and every employee who contributed to this project,” said Cllr Khumalo.
The little bears were knitted by personnel from the Office of the Speaker and Ward Councillors.
“I want to applaud all those who dedicated their leisure time to knit and crochet 140 special bear character, each with unique personalities that most resembles themselves to ensure that this day gets realized. This is part of the City’s continued alignment with the vision and principles which Nelson Mandela lived by,” concluded Cllr Khumalo.
